How To Use A Template On Evernote

(Let me just say that I'm learning a lot by this and that I hope that I exercise not sound too defensive and/or aggressive towards the other participants in this thread.)

Not surprisingly nosotros may non be that far apart after all.

I'll start with @ctietze:

Oho, so now I take to chime in to defend my honor, good Sir! ⚔️

Hehe. It was non my intention to imply that yous didn't practise become piece of work or something like that, quite the opposite. I merely took it as ane example that in a exercise many notes won't be finished on the first endeavour. I retrieve this holds true even if your great volume processing series is of form a picayune bit of "Zettelkasten theater".

I personally would choice maybe 5 or 10 Zettel worth of notes hither […] I could write bad notes, certain. […]

I take this to mean: Quality over Quantity. But that is not what I mean when I'chiliad saying it'due south fine to showtime with subpar notes. (See below.)

Is that a factor you have in heed, @matti? Like, non existence skillful in the field/craft to get to useful evaluations?

Yeah. But I would generalize even more: Even when existence skilful there will be areas in your field that you oasis't grasped still. Or new things are coming up. An case from the field of software compages: I might at present a little about microservices but not so much almost self-contained systems. This happens all the time. We don't need to get in audio like information technology only happens to noobs.

Side by side @Will (I retrieve your handle is gread btw. because information technology makes me recall "at will"…):

Don't be so hard on yourself.

Absolutely! The book processing serial is amazing!

[most the noob argument] Yes, equally I proceeds more than domain-specific knowledge my note creation skills should evolve as long as I don't get lazy. […] I view this as an iterative learning process and I'm just a noob.

Two things. Equally I said above, information technology'due south not simply noobs. Hopefully you will process things that milkshake your foundations plenty even subsequently decades of noesis piece of work. That at to the lowest degree would be a good goal to have - admitting a little bit of an unrealistic one for all of us, peradventure.

The second thing: Lazyness is just a problem if you have to employ (likewise much) willpower. But in as much as this is possible, it should not need a lot of willpower to piece of work in this way. It should become habitual to work with your Zettelkasten. And habit forming is more than about having fun with it and practiced emotions well-nigh the process. I would even go so far as to say: Having to employ (too much) willpower for writing notes is recipe for staleness of any Zettelkasten. It needs to be more of a natural habit, IMHO.

And @sfast

Y'all can better a lot.

Absolutely! Your note taking skills will go ameliorate and better with fourth dimension. And however it'due south a fourth dimension bound thing.

You can always gain speed by increasing the sloppiness with which you practise things.

The point I was trying to brand here is not nearly being fine with a subpar end product, or throughput of books or amount of created notes. The point is: What can you lot practice if your schedule is scattered? What can you do, if you practice not yet grasp the thing but accept to interrupt your session? My answer: Endeavor to hone your workflow to 1. make information technology easy to go along where yous have left of and 2. be okay with seeing your notes as being on their way to become mature.

Then but create fewer Zettel. A created Zettel adds to your own disquisitional thinking, your ability to concentrate on complex things and is a quality text.

Or be fine with being on your mode to a cracking Zettel, soon! As long as you lot regularly come back to your Zettelkasten and you are still interested in the topic it's going to exist fine to leave things only partly processed considering yous're going to get back to it. It doesn't matter if y'all accept created 1 or 10 Zettels in a given fourth dimension interval, either, because that's not what we're looking to optimize here.

No, they aren't. The cognition construction is not the historical artifact but the interpretation and its asigned feature. The careful statement goes like the following: If the antiquity is acurately described by X feature we tin infer Y. That does not change with the fakeness of the artifact.

Wow. I would like to know more!

But in any instance: The fakeness of an antiquity I might exist researching or new Data about something or new ways of thinking most a certain concept, etc. surely will prompt me to rework certain aspects (Links for example) of my Zettel. I think this still holds true, no?

If the artifact is acurately described by X characteristic we can infer Y. That does not change with the fakeness of the artifact.

But information technology changes with the if clause in the get-go of the argument! Because it might non be accurately described. And how to approximate this? By learning how to grasp. And how to exercise this? By investing time and try. What if we go interrupted frequently? We need to get dorsum to it. What does this hateful for my Zettels? They might be in a state of inaccuracy.

  • I might know the country of a given Zettel (and since I will come back to the Zettel in due time that's fine)
  • or I might non (in which instance the bespeak is moot)
  • or I might not know it even so (in which case at that place is a take chances of it condign the first example after a while)

The iterative approach is less forgiving. […] you lot don't go to the threshold where the magic happens. (Which btw. is the reason why many people either don't take the endurance to stick to their system or take a wake-up to a pile of notes that is more difficult to handle over fourth dimension instead of having a living Zettelkasten that get's more supple over time)

I tin can't say that that'southward really the case. I feel like my approach has helped me a lot in understanding the world around me and my own ideas. The arrangement I use is serendipitous, which I think is a good indicator that the approach is working.

I agree however that fail will lead to a stale Zettelkasten but this has more to do with biting off more you can chew. This could exist happening considering you take on besides many topics at once and/or it could happen because y'all effort to be perfect from the kickoff and you don't have the time for it. It however doesn't depend on doing information technology this way or another mode.
